Black beans spread for toast or sandwiches
This recipe is one of my favourites because it takes 5 minutes to make, it’s creamy, a great source of protein and fibre, and it’s very versatile and is one of the best choices when eliminating cold-cut-meats
How to make black bean spread?
You can choose canned black beans or cook your own. The result is almost the same. I find using my own cooked beans, and when still warm, they become creamier. Suppose you like spicy food, use a small whole red chilli or powder. Another option is using smoked chipotle chilli peppers but then omit the paprika powder. If you can’t take “heat,” omit the hot peppers and only use the paprika powder. It is super flavourful.
This recipe is super easy since all the ingredients go in a food processor until smooth.
How to use Black bean spread?
I love adding my black bean spread nice and smooth when it’s cold to my toast or sandwiches. When I use it for dinner, I prefer to warm it up and keep it a bit chunky since I will serve it with rice or quinoa, with veggies and some guacamole on the side.
Can I swap the black beans for another kind of beans?
Absolutely! You can use any cooked legume, like red kidney beans and add a slice of red beets to it for colour and extra flavour. You can use cooked white beans, pinto beans, green lentils and even a mix of left-over beans.
