Warm moka (mocha) sprouted rolled oats
If you love coffee, you will like these oats, and if you looove chocolate, you are in for a treat. Here is a combination of dark roast coffee and dark chocolate all-in-one warm, decadent, nutritious breakfast.
Benefits of Moka (mocha) sprouted rolled oats?
Coffee is a stimulant because of the caffeine and helps to increase energy levels. Some studies show a possible effect in coffee for diabetes, heart disease & Parkinson’s disease.
And dark chocolate, few people say no to chocolate. It’s important to choose dark chocolate (anything over 72% cacao). In this recipe, I use both cacao powder ( not to be confused with cocoa powder) and non-dairy, 80% chocolate chips.
Are oats healthy?
Oat is a very healthy type of grain. They are packed with fibre, antioxidants, protein, natural fats & carbs.
There are many health benefits, including reducing the risk of heart disease, lowering blood sugar levels, and helping with weight loss.
Oats contain different types of fibre, a specific type called beta-glucan that is known to help lower levels of bad cholesterol.
They are also rich in minerals like thiamin, which helps prevent complications in the nervous system (muscles, stomach, brain, and intestines).
Oats also contain iron, phosphorus, zinc and Vitamins B1, B5 and B9 (folate).
What kind of oats can I use?
I love using sprouted rolled oats because they are easier to digest. By sprouting the oats, the amount of anti-nutrients (inhibitors of vitamins and minerals absorption) decreases and other important compounds like GABA increase.
How long do rolled oats need to cook?
Regular rolled oats are slightly rolled or pressed whole oats, and they will cook faster than the whole grain or steel-cut oats but will need more time than quick oats, but these are more processed, so to me to save a few minutes in the cooking is not worth it.
Rolled oats can take between 6-10 minutes to cook. On the other hand, sprouted rolled oats are faster to cook than regular rolled oats (about 5 to 8 minutes) and are healthier, so to me, they are a “win-win.”
How to store cooked oats?
If you have any leftovers wait until cool and store them in the refrigerator, inside an airtight container to prevent spoiling. Cooked oats can last 3-4 days in the fridge.
